Mini-Nubian

The Miniature Nubian (Mini-Nubian)

Breed Standard (courtesy Miniature Dairy Goat Association)

“The Mini-Nubian is a mid-sized goat being of mixed Nigerian and Nubian origin. It is known for being a graceful, elegant animal standing between 22-28 inches and comes in any color or pattern of short, fine, glossy hair. This mid-sized goat is known for its ease of milking; producing a high quantity and quality of milk whose butterfat yield is similar to that of the standard Nubian. Emphasis is placed on a structurally correct animal with well-attached udder that milks with ease. This breed was originally designed for small farms and homesteaders who milk by hand and need a smaller animal for handling and feeding purposes. “

Goat Companions has produced its first generation (F1) of Mini-Nubians in 2013. The foundation goats for our breeding program have been carefully selected from Nigerian Dwarf and Nubian herds for milkiness, and in the case of the Nubian does, exceptional Nubian type. We will rebreed in Fall 2013 to improve Nubian characteristics and advance generations.

The first breeding is from our purebred, registered Nigerian Dwarf herd sire Buddha and our purebred, registered Nubian does Poppy and Cosmos.

We now have Mini-Nubian goat kids with the finest qualities of Nubian and Nigerian Dwarf bloodlines that are easy for human kids to handle, while producing more milk than a Nigerian Dwarf (size matters where milk production is concerned!).

Goat Companions will be retaining kid/s from these breedings, but will have kids available for purchase either from this or future breedings. If you are interested in acquiring a Mini-Nubian goat from Goat Companions please send your contact information (be sure to indicate whether you want a doeling, buckling or both) and we will add you to a waiting list for future kiddings.
